A Feng Shui Tip from E. J. Shaffert, Director of London School of Feng Shui

We are now coming to the end of our blog series on the Chinese Five Elements.

If you missed any of our discussions about the other elements, be sure to go back and review!

As discussed, this ancient Chinese art of arranging spaces is all about balancing five key elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.

Today, we explore the Wood element in Feng Shui.

The Wood element is your go-to element for growth, vitality, and creativity, making it a fantastic choice for energising your space.

Wood symbolises growth, expansion, and upward movement.

It offers a fresh start feeling, helping you cultivate new beginnings and nurture personal growth.

It is also linked to creativity, flexibility, and abundance and it encourages a space where ideas can flourish and projects can grow, making it perfect for areas like your home office or a creative studio.

The energy of Wood is all about bringing life and vibrancy into your environment. Think lush greenery, fresh flowers, and anything that symbolises upward growth.

Plants are a natural and beautiful way to introduce the Wood element. They not only add a splash of colour but also improve air quality and create a lively atmosphere.

Green is the quintessential Wood colour, symbolising renewal and vitality. Incorporate shades of green into your decor, from wall colours to cushions and rugs. You can also look for furniture with upward, vertical lines or patterns that mimic the growth and movement of plants.

To further enhance the Wood element, consider adding artwork that features trees, plants, or landscapes. These pieces can serve as reminders of nature’s resilience and beauty. Bamboo, with its fast growth and flexibility, is a particularly potent symbol of the Wood element in Feng Shui.

While the Wood element is invigorating, it’s essential to balance it with other elements to maintain harmony in your space.

Pairing Wood with Water elements, like a small indoor fountain, can enhance its growth potential, as Water nourishes Wood.

Similarly, incorporating some Fire element, such as candles or warm lighting, can energise and activate the space and make the Wood element feel productive.

Embrace the vibrant and creative energy of the Wood element in your home, and see how your space and your life start to flourish!
