A Feng Shui Tip from E J Shaffert, Director, London School of Feng Shui

In our previous blog, we looked at the powerful influence of the front door and the role it plays in welcoming energy, abundance, and opportunity into your life.

But there is another important question:

What happens to that Chi once it enters your home?

Does it stay, gather, and enrich your inner environment?

Or does it disappear almost as quickly as it arrived?

One of the most important things we look for in a Feng Shui consultation is what we call an energy leak.

Think of a bucket with a hole in the bottom. You can keep pouring water into it, but the water will continue to drain away.

The same can happen in a home.

You may be doing everything you can to attract more money, support, and opportunity, but if the space is allowing that energy to escape too quickly, it can be difficult to hold on to what comes in.

One of the most common causes is a window positioned directly opposite the front door.

When you stand at the entrance and look into the home, can you see straight out through a window on the other side?

If so, the energy entering through the front door may rush directly towards the window and leave again, without having the chance to settle and circulate through the space.

And this can sometimes be reflected in life as money coming in and going out just as quickly.

Now, before you reach for the hammer and start boarding up the window, there are much gentler ways to work with this.

My wife and I once lived in a flat with a large window directly opposite the front entrance.

At the same time, we owned a house in the United States that had been on the market for more than a year and simply would not sell. We were still paying the mortgage on a property we were no longer living in, and it felt like a very real financial leak.

I became convinced that the window placement in our flat was reflecting this pattern.

So we introduced a simple Feng Shui cure.

We placed a large chest in front of the window and put a beautiful picture of a castle on top of it. When we entered the flat, the chest and the image became the first things we saw, partially slowing and containing the energy before it reached the window behind them.

And then something rather wonderful happened.

Within two weeks, we received an offer on the house and sold it.

Was it a coincidence? Perhaps.

But after many years of practising Feng Shui, I can tell you that I have gathered quite a collection of these “coincidences.”

So this week, stand at your front entrance and look into your home.

Can you see any places where the energy may be rushing straight out again?

A window opposite the door?

A long corridor pulling the eye away?

A space that feels as though the energy enters, but has nowhere to settle?

Notice what you see.

Because attracting abundance is only part of the story.

The home must also be able to receive it, hold it, and allow it to nourish your life.
