From E. J. Shaffert, Director of London School of Feng Shui
For me, autumn always feels a bit like a New Year.
And in some cultures, of course, the calendar literally does begin in autumn.
There’s just something about this time of year that brings a sense of starting again:
Summer begins to wind down, people go back to school, back to work, back into routines — and often back into thinking about what they want to create next.
And I know for myself, this can also be the point where I have to be a little careful.
Because it’s very easy to jump into doing things just because the energy is there.
I can make lists, start projects, say yes to new commitments — and then suddenly realise that I haven’t really stopped to ask myself where all of this is actually going.
That, to me, is where Feng Shui becomes very interesting.
I realise that I don’t have to look at my calendar to get a sense of the vision I’m holding for my life –
I can simply look at your home – And especially at the walls.
In Feng Shui, what we place at eye level can say a lot about how we see our future.
If most of what we see around us is connected to the past — old photographs, souvenirs, memories — then our attention may remain more connected to where we’ve been than where we’re going.
And if the walls are completely bare, that can also say something:
It may be that we just haven’t given much thought yet to what we want to move toward.
So this week, take a look around your home and especially at the walls.
Not in a critical way, but just to observe:
What are you seeing every day?
Do the images around you lift you?
Do they remind you of what matters to you?
Do they reflect the kind of life you’d like to be moving toward?
And if they don’t, maybe this is a good time to change something!
It doesn’t have to be expensive or dramatic:
You could put up a photograph, a poster, a piece of art, or even make a vision board using images that speak to you.
The point is simply to let your home support the future you want to create.
Because if autumn really is a kind of New Year, then perhaps this is a good moment to really ask yourself:
“What am I actually moving toward — and can I see any sign of it in my own home?“
That could be a very good place to begin!
Enjoy!
